EVs are a great way to save money, but they could be more exciting to drive. That's why Porsche is building the Taycan, an electric sedan that can hold its own against any gas-powered car on the market. For comparison, we've pitted it against the KIA Carnival-a minivan with an EPA combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg.
So how do you know which one is right for you? Here's what we've found so far:
Design & Style
- Exterior Design
You can easily spot the Taycan by its sleek, futuristic design. It has a low profile and long hood, with a fastback roofline that slopes down to the rear end. The Taycan is also very narrow, thanks to its tiny wheels and narrow track width.
Kia's exterior design is far less interesting than that of its competitor. It features fairly bland styling elements reminiscent of many other compacts on the market today-and in 20223 as well!
- Interior Design
The Taycan's interior design is sleek and modern, with a dash of sportiness to add character. There are two seats up front, but there's plenty of room for four passengers in the backseat. The dashboard is minimalistic and streamlined, with only a handful of buttons to control all car functions. The seats are leather with contrast stitching and Porsche logos embroidered; they're also heated! This makes for an overall luxurious experience when you're inside this electric vehicle.
The Carnival has a similar amount of space as the Taycan, but its interior feels more dated in comparison. It features more buttons than necessary on its dashboard-a lot of things can be controlled through voice commands these days-and has an overall cheap feel about it when compared to other SUVs like Toyota Rav4 or Ford Explorer, which have more modern interiors (but aren't as fast). The seats aren't heated either!
Technology & Safety
In the safety department, both models come with a plethora of standard safety features. Both the 2022 Porsche Taycan and 2022 KIA Carnival are equipped with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring systems. The KIA also comes with lane departure warning as well as forward collision warning systems.
The 2022 Porsche Taycan comes with an additional feature: Traffic Jam Assist (TJA). This technology allows drivers to drive up to 37 miles per hour in stop-and-go traffic on freeways or expressways with no driver intervention needed for up to five minutes at a time!
Performance
When it comes to engine performance specs, the 2022 Porsche Taycan has an advantage with its electric motors. The Taycan's total output is 592 horsepower, which is considerably higher than KIA Carnival's 404 horsepower. Additionally, the Porsche can go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds while KIA Carnival takes 6.7 seconds to reach that speed.
However, when you look at their respective torque ratings (torque is a measure of how much force an engine can produce), it becomes clear that KIA Carnival has more torque than the Porsche Taycan: 576 lb-ft compared to 496 lb-ft respectively.
The Bottom Line
In the end, there's no question that the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster is a better car than the 2022 KIA Carnival. While it's true that both of these cars can give you a great driving experience, it's hard to beat the performance and style of a sports car like this one. In fact, some might say that it's downright unfair how good this car is!
